Hill FC

3-0

CSKA Belfield

-UCD Superleague Saturday B-

-Gameweek 12-

February 10th, 2022

The tangerines were going into this match having collected their first points of 2022 the week prior in what was an inspired performance, the hope being that would be carried into the next week, despite dropouts the side were ready to take them on, Mark Byrne making his debut for the club in goal despite being a defender, as well as Liam McCarthy being named in the squad for the first time this season.

The first half started well with the team being a constant menace to our opponents, despite the odd chance from themselves the Hill had control of most of the play and it wasn’t long before Conor Round had opened the scoring with a lucky deflection finding his head to beat the keeper. Ryan followed suit not long after with a great ball through finding him with a tidy finish followed. Although it appeared as though the flood gates were opened CSKA Belfield began causing us trouble and looked as though they’d pull themselves back in, however the lads held on till half time.

The second half was a moment where the test of mentality would really lie, making sure not to let the two goal cushion get to our heads easily. A far more even second half, it felt as though one more was needed to truly put the game to bed. Despite constant barrage of shots it was left up to Sean Kennedy to strike home his first goal for the club with a brilliant finish from range, a fantastic way to open his account for the tangerines. That was the nail in the coffin the Hill were looking for.

Credit owed to debutant Mark Byrne who kept a clean sheet with a number of saves often keeping us in the game.
