Hill FC went into Gameweek 2 top of the group, with Hophouse 11 coming off the back of a rusty performance against Wu-Han Clan in a 1-1 draw. Hophouse 11 being the most established Superleague team in the group, this was their game to lose.
In the first half, Hophouse had the run of the show, easily dispatching our defence and exploiting mistakes to put four goals past us within a short space of time. We did have reason to be annoyed however as just like the week before, referee’s horrendous decisions prevented countless chances.
We came out in the second half with no game settled, instantly making chances and being a constant threat to Hophouse who the team was slowly learning how to break down. However, Hophouse decided this was the point where they would stop the football and begin the nasty side of the sport.
First, going after Kian Keegan off the ball twice before a brawl sprung out including all players of both sides, before the referee awarded a free without giving any bookings. Tensions remained high as our players realised we could now blatantly foul players and get away with it, which of course Hophouse were not accepting now it was happening to them.
Things hit new heights as Hophouse number 9 decided to karate kick Conor Round off the ball, which saw the previous brawl happen all over again. The opposition deciding to defend the player’s decision to kick a player because of bickering between the two teams throughout the match. Rounder has since had his ribs checked for damage and will be on the sidelines for a short stint.
The game remained stale for the final few minutes before the referee finally called full time. All in all, the experience left a sour taste in our mouths, certainly a team we would not entertain a friendly against to put it lightly.
