The club’s first game of the new year sees us go up against Stroke Titty, who lost 3-0 to Hophouse in their last fixture. The tangerines were going into this match aiming to change to tide of our results, with 5 consecutive losses in the buildup to this fixture. Though the squad was strong, we were missing some familiar faces which led to first starts for Finn Breathnach and Tom Livingstone.
The first half started as many of our games do with some shaky end to end football, we were getting a foothold on the game. This swiftly changed when our opponents got forward and scored the opener, however it wasn’t long before Jordan had found the net for a leveller with good football from Tom Livingstone. Our momentum was soon shot at as the ref saw fit to send off Conor Round after just 20 minutes which saw us go down to ten men.
The second half saw many changes and the team were not ready to go down easily, with everyone putting in a shift and creating constant chances despite the man down, though it seemed like we couldn’t find the net. At the other end, Conor Hall put up a brilliant performance in goal facing a barrage of 1-on-1s but producing some fantastic saves which saw him take home man of the match. However despite being mostly out of the game, and after a tonne of disgustingly bad referee decisions, our opponents poked in the winner in what was another smash and grab goal.
Credit is owed to Sean Hussey, Kian Keegan, Oisin Breathnach and Adam Coulter for being a constant presence throughout the game.
