After a tough battle against Seshfield Wednesday in the last 16, the Hill squeezed through on penalties after heroics from Lee in net. We were drawn against We Never Made It Eagles, who received a bye to the Quarter Final stage. Eagles, who finished third in Group One, come in to this fixture winless in their previous 4 games, despite picking up 6 wins across their group stages.
The first half got started straight away with Ben Finlay feeding Ryan Glynn through straight away and we found ourselves 1-0 up within the first minute. Despite a few chances from Seshfield, The Hill kept the pressure up. Evan managed to find Devon with a brilliant cross who put it on a plate for Ryan to put us 2-0 up in the first half, his 11th goal this season. Many chances came our way but the score remained 2-0 going into half time
The second half was when Seshfield began to get a foothold in the game, a ball in badly dealt with by our back line saw our opponents grab one back to put us under pressure. That pressure didn’t seem like it was going to last however, as Ryan was able to spot the run of substitute Sean Kavos with a brilliant chip over the defence. Sean, still with a lot of work to do managed to get around two players and the goalkeeper to roll in our 3rd of the night. However Seshfield didn’t let this drop their heads and drove forward. Our opponents scoring directly from a corner, before pushing back up and grabbing an equaliser. Despite this, the Hill remained resurgent, pushing for a winner late into the game but our opponents were able to see it out to penalties.
Despite the daunting task of assigning the penalties, all 5 takers (Devon, Sideeq, Evan, Gough and Coulter) all accepted the decision with confidence, and after a solid game himself there was belief that goalkeeper Lee could have a save in him. First four penalties, while stressful went by without a hitch before Lee guessed right and saved Seshfield fourth spot kick. Adam Coulter saw his own penalty saved, however Lee’s heroics had shaken our opponent’s confidence and their final penalty was blazed over the bar.
